New Weekly Fiddle Session in Columbia

Thanks to David Currey, we have a new venue for the old-time fiddle club sessions. We will be meeting the first and third Wednesday of each month, 5-8 p.m., September 2008 through May 2009 at the Hawthorn Lounge, in Memorial Union (north side) on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The Hawthorn Room is actually the foyer outside the refubished International Center offices on the lower level of Memorial Union North. The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 3.

As you know, the Nifong Park (Museum) location was excellent, and the courtesies of Deborah Thompson and the Historical Society were very much appreciated. But there were ongoing dissatisfactions with the inability to get more fiddlers to take part, attract students, townspeople, etc. We had been talking about trying a new location somewhere downtown or on campus, and now we have one to try. The sessions will be sponsored by the International Center. I’m very excited about the new location, and very grateful to David for working out the location and schedule.
